John M. Storyk

WSDG
Founding Partner
Since graduating from Princeton as an architect in 1968, and co-founding WSDG (Walters-Storyk Design Group) with his wife, Beth Walters in 1986, John Storyk has been involved with the design of over 3500 recording studios, corporate conference rooms, performance venues, broadcast complexes and audioforvideo suites around the world. His first commission was for Jimi Hendrix over 50 years ago, creating Electric Lady Studios, which continues to churn out hit records to this day in its original site in NY’s Greenwich Village. Storyk and WSDG credits include studios for Jay-Z, Green Day, Paul (Adele) Epworth’s The Church Studio in London, Whitney Houston, Academy Award-nominated film composer Carter Burwell, Aerosmith, NYC’s premiere ‘destination studio Jungle City, Spotify, Sony, RCA and Alicia Keys, and acoustic design of such renowned performance venues as Jazz At Lincoln Center and Le Poisson Rouge.WSDG is an eleven-time winner of the prestigious NAMM TEC Award for outstanding achievement in Acoustics/Facility Design. John Storyk lectures frequently on acoustics and studio design at colleges and universities around the country. He is an adjunct professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and co-author/principal professor of Berklee’s new Masters Online Course in Architectural Acoustics for Studios. WSDG maintains offices in New York, Miami, Argentina, China, Germany and Switzerland.Away from architecture and acoustics, he has served as a Director on the Board (as well as Chair for 3 years) of Walkway Over the Hudson, the world’s longest pedestrian walking bridge and one of New York State’s most prominent public parks.John loves baseball - has attended games in all 32 major league fields and still plays catcher position on his local Highland, NY softball team. He is licensed small plane pilot and an active scuba diver, particularly in his winter Mexico home with wife and partner Beth Walters. He still designs every day and continues to dream - two of these dreams most likely never happening - catching for the New York Yankees and someday conducting a Lincoln Center performance of Puccini’s La Bohème. But who knows?
