Peter Asher

Peter Asher
1964, one half of Peter & Gordon, who amassed nine Top 20 records. 1968, head of A&R for the Beatles’ record company, Apple Records, where he found, signed, and produced James Taylor. 1971, founded Peter Asher Management, representing James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Randy Newman, and more for several decades. As a producer, Mr. Asher has worked with such diverse artists as James Taylor, 10,000 Maniacs, Diana Ross, Robin Williams, Neil Diamond, Ringo Starr, Linda Ronstadt, Hans Zimmer, Ed Sheeran, Miguel, and Cher, among many others. He has produced fifteen Grammy Award-winning recordings, and in 1977 and 1989 won the Grammy for "Producer of the Year".

Other projects include the production of “So Familiar” the follow-up album to the highly successful (and Grammy-winning) “Love Has Come for You” (Steve Martin & Edie Brickell) which also generated a PBS special and the Tony-nominated stage musical, “Bright Star”, of which Peter was the music supervisor and producer of the Grammy-nominated cast album.

Peter also directed the highly acclaimed Hans Zimmer live concert which premiered in London on October 10th and 11th 2014 and began its US tour in Los Angeles and at the Coachella Festival in April 2017.

His other current adventure is writing and hosting a highly successful and much-praised weekly radio show, “From Me to You”, on The Beatles Channel on SiriusXM radio. A series of these shows (“The Beatles from A to Zed”) inspired a new book of the same name which was published by Henry Holt in November 2019 and is already in its third printing.

Peter also continues his career as a live performer, with his show “A Memoir of the 60s and beyond” combining songs and stories.

His most recent production was an album with Kate Taylor (“Why Wait”), in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the successful album they made together for Atlantic all those years ago, using many of the same legendary musicians.

Peter has been a member of the Recording Academy for well over fifty years and has served multiple terms as Governor, as President of the LA Chapter, and as Trustee.

In the New Year’s Honours list for 2015, Peter Asher was awarded a CBE (“Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire”) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. The official investiture took place at Buckingham Palace on February the 24th.
