Rodrigo Meirelles is an awarded multidisciplinary professional passionate about sound, music and education. He built his career combining his skills and passions, what gave him a unique background and an international reputation as an educator and audio engineer.     
 
He started playing the guitar at the age of 13, when later the stages took him to the music production studios and these led him to the music and media industry. After years performing as an audio engineer in the Brazilian music industry, doing several creative works with renowned producers, companies and artists, Rodrigo transitioned to the media & audiovisual industry. In 2009, he joined Globo, one of the largest media companies in the world, as an audio coordinator at Globo Studios (entertainment division). Recognized for its production quality, the company holds 17 International Emmy awards. At Globo, Rodrigo started leading the post production sound team and progressively achieved positions and promotions, being involved with all of the entertainment productions as the Sound Executive Supervisor, the studio’s highest position in Sound. In August 2019, Rodrigo moved to the Unites States of America to join Arizona State University as a full-time Professor. Ever since he’s in charge of Sound Design for Film and Media curriculum in the School of Film, Dance and Theatre (now the Sidney Poitier New American Film School) at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.
 
Before ASU, Rodrigo taught sound courses for 8 years in Music Production and Film schools at Estacio university in Rio de Janeiro. He has also founded ProClass, Avid's first certified training center in Brazil, where he also taught Pro Tools certification classes as an Avid Certified Instructor (ACI). Avid's creative tools, such as Pro Tools and Media Composer, are used in 6 of 6 of the major Film Studios in the world. Rodrigo has all levels of internationally recognized certifications in Pro Tools, the industry standard for digital audio workstations. Rodrigo’s name is often found in the main Audio and Media conferences in Brazil. His lectures and publications are acclaimed and he is also frequently part of some conference’s organization committee for international associations such as the Audio Engineering Society (AES), with which he has a long term active membership and was recently upgraded to full member as well as a board member of its Education Committee. In 2019 he had a dedicated chapter with an interview in a book called "The Post Production Sound in the Brazilian Audiovisual”, with 12 published interviews with whom the author consider Brazil’s top sound professionals in this field. Rodrigo was awarded in 2020 by Dolby Laboratories for the essential contribution for the first live broadcasting in Dolby Atmos in South America.
 
Rodrigo holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Computing Engineering, with emphasis on Digital Audio, a degree in Recording and Music Production and a Master of Arts’ degree in Education, with emphasis on Education and Media. As a Sound Artist, he seeks for taking his diverse and multidisciplinary background to explore the manifold instances of the power of sound, above and beyond technology, projecting visions, voices, languages and disruptive art forms.
